CSU-Monterey Bay, Academic II Building

Seaside (Monterey), California

Lyles Mechanical Co. (LMC) is serving as the plumbing and mechanical trade contractor on the construction of this new 57,000 SF academic building on the main campus of CSU Monterey Bay. CSUMB is located on the former location of the US Army’s Fort Ord. LMC’s scope includes the installation of site chilled and heating hot water, building plumbing, and the HVAC wet and dry side mechanical systems. An extensive in-slab radiant heating and cooling system is included. Due to the diversity of our scope, LMC participated in a BIM collaboration effort that included participation from the electrical and fire protection subcontractors as well as the architectural trades. This BIM effort provides benefit by identifying clashes long before field work starts and will enable the project team to develop strategic construction sequencing. The 3D models produced also provide the General Contractor and Owner a unique tool to use in their respective project promotion programs. LMC promotes a safety culture where all team members (craft and management) report every near-miss and every safety observation or concern. These efforts are crucial in upholding the team’s industry-leading safety values and complying with the Owner’s stringent requirements of the OCIP. All these efforts will provide support in delivering this LEED Gold Certified building for the University.
